History of Somerset Abbey

The land was donated to build the church in or around 1891 by the Weston family, a prominent founding family in the town of Madison. The building that houses Somerset Abbey was finished and occupied in 1892 by the Madison Congregational Parish, United Church of Christ and resided there until their last service on Dec. 28, 2014. Stacy O'Brien is a native daughter of Madison and an interested party in the growth of Madison. She attended college in Vermont at Vermont Technical College and eventually met Tom and they were married. Tom and Stacy purchased the Church with the intention of preserving the historic building in town and had the idea to open a music and events hall, a way to keep the building self-sustaining but keeping the historical building intact.
